Stylized mountain ranges and highlighted county boundaries make
this old Vermont map an especially attractive example of early
cartography. This map was published as part of an atlas
entitled" "A Complete Historical, Chronological, And
Geographical American Atlas" by H.C. Carey and I. Lea
By
this time Vermont has been divided into the twelve counties that
exist today, thought some of the towns, notably in the northeastern
regions, have their ancient names. They Carey map shows us the
principal roads in Vermont. By 1822, there were more than
200,000 residents in the Green Mountain State.
This copy of
the 1822 Carey map comes from the David Rumsey historical map
collection. The publisher's note states that this atlas was
the first Americal atlas to include explanatory text surrounding the
