Compilation Maps

Quick guide to possible Ancient Roads in your town.

We now offer Historic Roads Compilation Maps -  custom-made, detailed maps showing all modern roads in a town, with the addition of all old roads shown on the historic maps ("Beers", Walling, old USGS etc).

These maps are designed as a first-step for those researching Ancient Roads in Vermont. The idea is to make it much easier to do your research on the ground and in old town records.

Our map shows every possible old road shown on the various maps. It is designed so that you can make additions and deletions based on your research and field work.

The sample to the left is an excerpt from one of our Historic Roads Compilation Maps.

The base map is the Town tax map (which was available in digital format).

Likely old roads are are drawn in with a heavy "----" dash pattern.  The "x" indicates that it is probably unmaintained. The bold "!" bars indicate where maintenance ends.

The year of the source map is written in bold lettering.  Maps used for this town include the 1856 Doton map, 1860 Walling map, 1869 Beers Atlas, and 1893 USGS map.

These maps are drawn to the scale of the modern USGS topographical map. A typical size is 24" x 30" (varies with town).

Send us an EMAIL if you want to know more.  Be sure to mention "Compilation Map" and your town. Back
